Copywriting FAQs

Questions, I’m sure you’ve got a few. Here are some of the main copywriting FAQs my clients ask about me and what I do.

What does a professional copywriter do?

Have you seen Mad Men? Well, life as a copywriter isn’t quite like that. However, we do come up with the words and concepts for adverts.

Essentially, a professional copywriter writes copy and content for businesses and individuals looking to engage with an audience and/or sell their products or services.

What can you write?

I have over 18 years of experience writing all kinds of on and offline content. Things you might find me working on include blogs, articles, infographics, brochures, web copy, email newsletters, social media copy, copy decks, ebooks, corporate docs, and more.

Who are you?

I’m Kerrie Brooks, a copywriter, content writer, copyeditor, and proofreader. If you’d like to know more about me and my professional background, check out my LinkedIn profile. You can also follow me on Instagram and Facebook.

Where are you located?

I work from my home office in Merewether Heights, Newcastle, NSW, Australia.

How much do you cost?

I don’t list set fees, as every project is different. When you first get in touch and tell me what you need, I’ll send you through a quote. As I charge by the project and not by the hour, you can see upfront exactly what you’ll end up paying.

As a ballpark, a standard blog post (500-700 words) would cost approximately $350. For more rough prices, see my prices page or get in touch and ask me for my Rate Card.

Do we need to meet in person to discuss my project?

Thanks to the wonders of technology, we don’t have to meet up in person. An initial chat over the phone call and a bit of back and forth via email usually does the trick.

For larger projects, such as websites, I like to do a face-to-face ‘Discovery Meeting’ on Zoom or in-person to help me understand more about your business, your audience, and your goals.

Can you write for my industry?

Yes, I can write copy for any type of business or industry. My writing style is clean, straightforward, and conversational, but I can adapt my tone and approach to suit you and your brand.

Over the past 18 years, I’ve written for a wide range of industries on a broad range of topics including, finance, technology, building and construction, fashion, health, travel, and health and wellbeing.

How quickly can I get my copy?

This depends on the project you have in mind and my workload when you get in touch. As a rough idea, turnaround is usually two weeks for bigger jobs such as full website copy, brochures, and ebooks. Although this is dependent on me getting all of the information I need from you.

For smaller jobs, such as blog posts, sales emails, and copyediting, a week is a good guide. But I can sometimes squeeze things in sooner if you need them quickly.

What if I want to make changes to the copy?

If you feel the copy doesn’t quite meet the brief or you’d like to make any changes, I’m more than happy to discuss your concerns and rework. My fees include up to two rounds of revision as well as proofreading.

I already have copy written, but it needs improving – can you help?

I sure can. I’m an experienced copyeditor as well as a copywriter and content writer and can work my magic on all types of copy from blogs to web content to brochures. As well as checking things like grammar and spelling, I can also rework and restructure to improve the flow and readability.
